In the coming months, expect to see Xander Bogaerts become a free agent. The Red Sox shortstop is insulted by the offers placed by Chaim Bloom on his table and I expect him to leave Boston.
And I’m not the only one.
Where will he go? In my eyes, the Dodgers (because I believe Trea Turner wants to come back East) and the Cardinals will be two logical targets, but other clubs will be in the race.
And according to reports, the Phillies (which will also likely be on Turner’s case) should be in line to try to sign the shortstop from Boston.
It makes sense to see the two names (Bogaerts and Turner) linked to the Phillies since they are, in my opinion, the two guys most likely to change address among the four shortstops.
Carlos Correa is likely to sign big money in Minnesota and I think he would be too expensive for Philly… and Dansby Swanson should stay, in my opinion, in Atlanta.
In short. All that to say that Dave Dombrowski, who leads the show in Philadelphia, was Bogaerts’ boss at one time. It was he who offered the star his contract of $ 120 million over six years in time and he knows him well.
However, he will have to take out the checkbook in an even more imposing way to sign it in 2022…
Having a big offensive guy whose defensive game isn’t on point would be exactly a player that would be custom-built for the Phillies, right?
But joking aside, that would force Rob Thompson (or the next manager) to put Bryson Stott at second base, where he’s better than shortstop, and that would force the club not to activate the option of the Jean Segura contract in 2023.
- Justin Verlander is getting better.
- A big week awaits the Blue Jays.
- Nice contract in San Francisco.
