The Confederation of African Football, through its Executive Committee, decided on Tuesday August 9 to renew Morocco for the organization of the Women’s AFCON 2024. After having organized that of 2022, which saw the coronation of South Africa, the Cherifian kingdom once again benefits from this privilege which is not at all trivial. A look back at a successful organization that conquered CAF and Africa.

Unexpected record crowds in the stadiums
Sport unites people, it is said. This was very well seen during the recent edition of the Women’s CAN held in Morocco this year. Before the start of the competition, it was impossible to imagine that there would be so many people, both in the stands and in the streets to experience the fervor of the tournament live. But afterwards, the observation was amazing. Even if the attendance was not expected at the start of the tournament, it reached a whole new level thereafter. During the semi-final, for example, which opposed Morocco to Nigeria, there were more than 45,000 spectators in the stands. An unprecedented attendance record.
Better still, during the final which pitted Morocco against South Africa, the number of spectators at the stadium quite simply erased the previous record. More than 46,000 people were present, full of enthusiasm and energy to live the last moments of the competition. A real success for women’s football and especially for Morocco which was in its first experience in terms of organizing a women’s CAN.
Infrastructure at the height of the tournament
To host the 12th edition of the CAN Women, Morocco has made available the historic cities of Casablanca and Rabat. Three stadiums, Prince Moulay Abdellah and Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan in Rabat and Complexe Mohamed V in Casablanca have been prepared to host the twenty-six matches of the tournament. World-class infrastructure. Natural lawns, standard lighting, everything is there to offer Africa « the best Women’s AFCON ever organised », as the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, declared during the competition.
Morocco has simply set the bar very high. What raise the country of the Atlas Lions to the rank of leader of African football.
Morocco, the only candidate for the organization of the women’s CAN 2024
Far from considering only the very good organization and the beautiful course of Morocco during the recent women’s CAN played at home, it should be noted that it was the only country to have applied. The choice was therefore quickly made by the CAF authorities on the issue. Although Morocco has already convinced all the observers, given their perfect organization during the 2022 edition. The Cherifian kingdom could have been in competition with Benin on this file if the latter had taken the necessary steps to apply.
In the meantime, the Beninese sports authorities had expressed their interest, but ended up giving up to look into a probable co-organization of the men’s CAN 2025 with Nigeria. It is therefore Morocco that will host the Women’s CAN 2024. Another part of the fun awaits the whole of Africa in the Cherifian kingdom in two years.
