But it is under the hood that Lotus engineers are expected at the turn. During its stay in England, the six-cylinder in-line 24-valve engine will undergo a course of hormones. Inside, only the Lotus logo betrays the special status of this Omega. There is nevertheless a speedometer graduated up to 300 km/h. The top speed claimed by this fighter plane reaches 284 km/h chrono! A record for a sedan at the time.

The 0 to 100 km/h is reached in 5.8 seconds. To slow down such cavalry, the entire braking system has been revised with the presence of Bosch ABS and four large 330 mm diameter ventilated discs.

A real collector

During its presentation, the Lotus Omega surprises and offers itself the luxury of becoming the fastest sedan in the world. But prejudices die hard, and even if the Omega benefits from the Lotus name, it remains an Opel for the clientele of high-end sports cars.

Only 950 Lotus Omega will be produced, including 284 right-hand drive Vauxhall Lotus Carlton and only 59 examples in France. In 1991, the car was displayed at the price of 550,000 F. Finding one in good condition today is a miracle.
