Welsh Cwmllynfell RFC player has died on the pitch

Cwmllynfell RFC’s third row Alex Evans died on Saturday while playing against Crynant RFC. A club official said Evans was feeling unwell during the game and left the pitch, before collapsing. Caregivers attempted to resuscitate him with a defibrillator on site, but he died at the scene.

Nicknamed « Jew » by his partners, Evans was a highly regarded member of the team, and his death deeply shocked the club and its supporters. On Twitter, the Cwmllynfell RFC wrote that it “There are no words to describe what happened. We have lost a brother ”.

Team captain Chris Balfe expressed his emotion on Facebook: “We lost one of the boys who perfectly embodied what Cwmllynfell RFC was. A fiercely loyal person who would give anything in the field and in life. For me, Alex sums up what rugby is, he played for his buddies week after week. «

The Welsh Federation (WRU) also offered its condolences to the family and relatives of Alex Evans.
