We know more about the next draw and the possible opponents of the Blues

With less than four months of the draw for the 2022 World Cup, the France team is virtually guaranteed to end up in hat 1, with the seeds. But in view of the Fifa ranking, opponents like Germany or Croatia could cross the road of the Blues from the group stage in Qatar.

Holder of the World Cup title, the French team of Didier Deschamps still have a few months to wait before knowing their opponents for the group stage of the 2022 edition. The draw for the competition, which will take place in Qatar, will take place on April 1, in Doha, the day after a FIFA congress, which is organizing the meeting which will bring together 32 countries (eight groups of 4).

13 nations are already sure to be there at the end of 2021: Qatar, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, England, Spain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Croatia, Denmark and Serbia. The eliminatory phases and various play-offs will therefore end by the end of March, to know all the participants.

Germany in hat 2?

This week, Fifa published its annual ranking, which will define the hats for the 2022 World Cup. If matches will still take place between now and then, developments will be marginal, with the possible exception of African countries that will compete in the Africa Cup of Nations. Note that for the Africa zone, 10 countries are still in the race for 5 places to distribute.

For the South America zone, the situation is fairly straightforward with four more days of the group stage to go. Ecuador has a good option for qualifying, as several teams risk competing for the fourth qualifying ticket with Colombia, Peru, Chile and Uruguay. The fifth of this group will face the winner of the Oceania zone.

Third in the Fifa rankings at the end of 2021, France will no doubt be among the top seeds. The Netherlands, Germany or Croatia will theoretically be placed in hat 2 and would be the main opponents to be avoided for the Blues. As a reminder, Italy and Portugal, who could both be in Hat 1, will meet at best during one of the three play-off finals in the Europe zone.
