Wayne Rooney’s Derby County relegated to League One
It’s a small sensation among our English neighbors. Although widely anticipated, the relegation of Derby County is now official. Direct consequence of the last defeat of the formation coached by Wayne Rooney, this Monday, on the lawn of QPR (0-1), after a late goal from Luke Amos, and the heroic draw of Reading against Swansea (4-4 after trailing 4-1). Current 23rd and penultimate in the Championship, the Rams can no longer save themselves and will evolve from the 2022-2023 season in League One (English D3).
Derby County, in the antechamber of English football since the 2008-2009 financial year, has not played in D3 since 1985-1986. Residents of Pride Park Stadium were awarded a penalty of 12 and then 9 points after their bankruptcy and placement in receivership in September. Without such sanctions, Derby, which will now have to find the necessary arguments to secure its place in D3, would currently have 52 points and would be in 17th place in the Championship.
