Wales beat Czech Republic to the wire

Defeated by Belgium (1-3) in the opening of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, Wales finally launched its campaign, dominating the Czech Republic (1-0) thanks to a header from Daniel James, resuming victoriously a cross from Gareth Bale (81st).

The two teams ended the game at 10 after the expulsions of Czech striker Patrik Schick (49th) and Welshman Connor Roberts (77th).

The Czechs believed to equalize in added time but defender Joe Rodon threw himself in to tackle and deflect a shot from Vladimir Darida (90th + 2) over the cage, preserving the precious success of the Welsh.
