Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Wins Hank-Aaron Prize


Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s remarkable season was recognized on Tuesday when the Toronto Blue Jays first baseman won the Hank Aaron Award, given to the season’s top offensive player.

A winner for the American League, Guerrero saw Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper be the winner in the Nationals. Guerrero is also one of the finalists for the All-American MVP award.

The son of the former Montreal Expos star of the same name led all major league baseball hitters with 48 homers and 123 runs scored in 2021. His .311 average is also his best in three seasons with the Jays.

Guerrero Jr. is the fourth representative of the Canadian team to win this honor after Carlos Delgado (2000), Jose Bautista (2010 and 2011) and Josh Donaldson (2015).

Salvador Perez (Kansas City Royals), Cedric Mullins (Baltimore Orioles), Jose Ramírez (Cleveland Indians), Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels), Aaron Judge (New York Yankees) and Matt Olson (Oakland Athletics) ) were the other candidates.

Grateful

In the Nationals, Harper also led in a major league division with 42 doubles. He hit 35 long balls and hit .309.

A panel of eight Hall of Famers, along with a fan survey, determined the winners.
