Virat Kohli steps down as India cricket team’s trial captain: The Tribune India

Virat Kohli dropped a bombshell on Saturday by being left behind by the Test captain after the unexpected chain loss against South Africa.

Kohli was made Test captain in 2014 when MS Dhoni stepped down mid-series against Australia.

“Everything has to stop at some point for me as the test leader for India, it is now. There have been many ups and a few failures along the journey, but there has never been a lack of effort or a lack of faith,” Kohli wrote. in a stunned Twitter statement.

His surprise announcement came a day after India lost 1-2 in the Test series in South Africa.

Kohli led India to the top of the world rankings and during his tenure the team scored an unforgettable victory in Australia.

The 33-year-old had recently resigned as T20 captain and was later sacked as ODI captain by BCCI.

Below is his statement:

“It took 7 years of hard work, toil and tireless perseverance every day to lead the team in the right direction. I did the job with absolute honesty and left nothing there. Everything had to stop at some point and for me as a Test Leader in India, it is now. There have been many ups and downs along the journey, but there has never been a lack of effort or a lack of faith. if I can’t do it, I know it’s not the right thing to do. I have absolute clarity in my heart and I cannot be dishonest with my team.

“I would like to thank BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country for such a long time and especially to all my colleagues who have embraced the vision I had for the team from day one and never have never given up in any situation. . You made this trip a beautiful and memorable trip. To Ravi Bhai and the support group who were the driving force behind this car that has constantly moved us forward in Test Cricket, you have all played a huge role in bringing this vision to fruition.
