The 1997 world champion recently tested an Alpine A521 at Monza and came away very impressed with a contemporary Formula 1 car.
With his friend Julien Fébreau (photo above) and even the actor Stéphane De Groodt, the test took place the day after the Italian Grand Prix as part of a documentary shot for Canal +.
The least we can say is that Jacques Villeneuve appreciated the experience, he who had not driven a modern F1 since his last appearance on the Sauber-BMW in 2006.
« The car was very stable and quite easy to drive because there is a lot of grip, says Jacques. The brain really has a hard time understanding speed: you’re grounded and you feel like you’re watching a movie in ‘fast-forward’ mode, very accelerated. »
“After the laps done on the simulator, and after seeing Ocon and Alonso driving at Monza, I understood where the braking point was, he explains. I thought my mind would remember everything: the trajectories and everything that happened sixteen years ago, and how and where to brake. »
