Villeneuve wants to do a full season in NASCAR

After his participation in the Daytona 500 this year, the 1997 world champion sees further and sets more ambitious goals in the discipline.

Last January, Jacques Villeneuve arrived 22nd in the Daytona 500 and seems to have rediscovered the bug of the oval circuits, he who won the Indianapolis 500 at the age of 24.

While he has obligations to keep with Canal + until the end of 2022, the former F1 World Champion hopes to be able to fill up on NASCAR next season.

“It was a great experience, but unfortunately it was just the Daytona race. I would have liked to drive several races with the team, but they did not follow through. »

“I definitely want to continue and do a whole season. Right now I’m very busy with Canal+ shows, but the plan is to go all out in NASCAR. I have always been passionate about racing on Ovale! »

In recent years, Villeneuve has spent more time as an expert than as a driver and explains that the Cup Series brings together everything he lacks as a full-time driver.

“I love sitting down with an engineer and discussing corner by corner what needs to be improved. When there’s damage, they fix it the old-fashioned way with the hammer and that’s exactly the kind of thing I love. »

“However, what I miss beyond that is being able to go for it when the lights go out” he concludes.
