Video: McLaren starts its MCL37
The McLaren team has unveiled images of the very first start of the Mercedes engine mounted in the rear of its new single-seater for the 2023 Formula 1 season, the MCL37.
Always a very important moment for the teams in F1, the « firing » of the power unit kicks off a final sprint before the ball of presentations which traditionally begins in February each year (31 January in 2023).
This engine firing allows the teams to check the correct operation of the various electrical and hydraulic systems of the power unit before the single-seater is entirely assembled around this hybrid V6 block.
McLaren this week became the third team on the grid to start its Mercedes engine, as already in December the Mercedes team posted a video of its firing, while Williams also started its engine for the first time. last week (see here).
In this short video posted on YouTube by McLaren (see bottom of the article), we can see the team’s new director, the Italian Andrea Stella, as well as the new driver Oscar Piastri, who will team up with the Briton Lando Norris from this season. The CEO of McLaren, Zak Brown, is also present during this firing, while all the employees of Woking who have participated directly or indirectly in the development of the new single-seater are also present.
McLaren will present its MCL37 on February 13, the same day as the Aston Martin team, during a live event broadcast exclusively on its YouTube channel.
