VIDEO – Ken Block discovers his crazy Porsche for Pikes Peak

Ken Block will tackle the famous Pikes Peak race with a 1,400 horsepower Porsche 911. This one is under development and here are the first images.

The excitement surrounding the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event is building as we get closer to the date. One of the most exciting vehicles we’re looking forward to is the Porsche 911 nicknamed Hoonipigasus that Ken Block will be racing in the event. The vehicle was presented last month and we know that it develops 1,400 horsepower and weighs only 1,000 kg. In other words, testing is very important to ensure that Ken Block manages to master the power of this monster on wheels. Check out the just released video to see Block driving his new toy to Pikes Peak for the very first time.

Unsurprisingly, the car is not pushed into these last entrenchments, nor to the top of the road. Colorado roads are still covered in snow at some elevation. The danger of driving at high speeds on this road at this time of year is real. The roads aren’t ideal for slicks just yet, but we think Ken Block’s team was still able to glean some insight from this short test to fine-tune the development of the car.

A war machine

Of course, the flat-six twin-turbo will have to prove its reliability, but that’s what engine test beds are for. It’s also not the first time the Hoonigan team has tested the car. A video released earlier this week showed testing the Hoonipigasus at Pueblo Motorsports Park near Colorado Springs. This allowed the car to start for the first time and to check the proper functioning of the engine and the suspension settings.

All that remains is to wait for the event scheduled for Sunday, June 26, to find out what this hellish Porsche is really worth.
