The Kenyan announced on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the team’s training session, that he will not be back next year.
“At the end of the season, I will be free, I will not be back,” he said, according to comments reported by Dave Lévesque, journalist at the Montreal Journal.
Wanyama arrived in the Quebec metropolis on March 3, 2020 through a transfer from Tottenham, in the Premier League. Named designated player, he scored five goals in 79 regular season games.
The midfielder will be an essential piece for CF Montreal, who can still aim for second place in the Major League Soccer (MLS) general classification and the top of the Eastern Conference.
The Impact will play its last game of the regular season against Inter Miami CF on Sunday. He will then try to win his first MLS Cup during the playoff tournament.
