German driver Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) took to the track with a helmet in the colors of Ukraine, to protest against the Russian invasion, during the second Formula 1 pre-season test in Bahrain on Thursday.
The white helmet, barred with blue and yellow, also bears a dove, the sign « Peace and Love »the words “No war” (No to war) and song lyrics « Conceived » by John Lennon.
On the initiative of the association of Grand Prix drivers, the GPDA, eighteen of the holders on the grid (with the exception of the Briton Lewis Hamilton and the Dane Kevin Magnussen) posed behind a Ukrainian flag and a banner carrying the words “No war” on the starting grid of the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain on Wednesday. All also wore a t-shirt crossed out with the words “No war”.
Hamilton spoke on Instagram. « I am wholeheartedly with the courageous people of Ukraine who firmly defend their values of freedom and peace »he wrote in particular, before calling for support for a group of British NGOs.
The second pre-season tests are held in Bahrain from Thursday to Saturday, before the first GP of the season, on the same circuit, the following week.
