New physical glitch among the Blues. An essential player for the France team during the 2018 world title, defender Raphaël Varane came out shortly before halftime (40th) of the derby between Manchester City and Manchester United on Sunday, trotting. A few minutes earlier, the 29-year-old central defender had blocked a Phil Foden strike from close range with his left foot and his left ankle had rotated.
Kanté and Benzema back in training
The player with 87 caps has been regularly injured since leaving Real Madrid for north-west England in 2021. This new physical glitch adds to the long list of injured French team players: the brothers Lucas and Théo Hernandez, Jules Koundé and Presnel Kimpembe had to forfeit the last gathering of the Blues a week ago.
That’s not all: midfielders Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kanté are also sidelined, as are strikers Kingsley Coman and Karim Benzema. Kanté and Benzema have returned to training, however.
Sunday afternoon, the score was already 3-0 when Varane left his teammates, replaced by Victor Lindelöf. The match ended with a demonstration by the Citizens (6-3).
