Dike scored nine goals in 22 appearances while on loan at Barnsley in the second half of the English season. Barnsley finished fifth, then lost 2-1 on aggregate in the qualifying semi-finals for promotion to the Premier League.

Orlando announced Barnsley’s decision on Tuesday. He said Dike will return to Orlando after the U.S. national team’s exposure against Costa Rica on June 9.

Orlando City CEO Alex Leitao has previously said the club will look to buy the rights to the player’s contract in hopes of securing a lucrative transfer fee this summer.

“We believe in its potential,” Leitao said. “We understand that players, especially at this age, have this desire to go to Europe and play for the top leagues. I think Daryl has this opportunity, he has proven he has the opportunity and we will help him realize his potential and his desire. «
