Update MLB The Show 22: release date, cover star, Switch version and addition to Xbox Game Pass on day one, the new episode is revealed
The series of MLB The Show is always developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment San Diego Studios, but that didn’t stop it from opening up to competition last year. MLB The Show 22 just announced, and it will follow in its footsteps. It will still be available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in addition to its PS4 and PS5 versions, again incorporated into Game Pass as soon as it is released and, for the first time, it will even land on Nintendo Switch.
The release date is already set to April 5, 2022, with cross progression, a next gen upgrade paying, but included in special editions, and Shohei Ohtani on the dust jacket. Ramone Russell, the game designer of the title, spoke on the PlayStation-Blog to talk about all this.
Shohei Ohtani’s 2021 season will have made history. The player hit 46 home runs, scored 100 RBIs and stole 26 bases, while going 9-2 on the mound, with a 3.18 ERA and 156 strikeouts. As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. If Ohtani’s success seems very recent in the United States, he built it as a teenager, at Hanamaki Higashi High School, in Japan.
After nailing one of Major League Baseball’s most memorable seasons, Shohei Ohtani emerged as an obvious choice to appear on the cover of MLB The Show 22.
Today, we are happy to announce that MLB The Show 22 will be released on April 5, 2022. The standard edition for next-gen consoles is priced at $59.99. The standard edition for current consoles is priced at $69.99. On Nintendo Switch, the game is priced at €59.99.

Update 03/02 : the special editions come as planned to be presented.
Shohei Ohtani is coming off what some would call one of the most memorable seasons in MLB history. Some would even say he had a superhero aura, and we wouldn’t contradict them. With that in mind, and knowing Shohei’s passion for manga and anime, the decision was obvious. An ordinary collector’s edition seemed insufficient to us: we wanted to go further.
It has come to our attention that famous mangaka, director and author Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai, Batman Ninja), is a big fan of Shohei Ohtani. So we thought, « What if Takashi draws Shohei in an anime style for MLB The Show 22 Collector’s Edition? » « . Shohei is an outstanding athlete who displays superhero skills on the court. What better way to bring these two worlds together than to create a one-of-a-kind cover art? We are happy to reveal the fruit of this collaboration.
The style of the cover is not representative of the game.
