David Henderson, the intermediary who organized the theft whose crash took the life of footballer Emiliano Sala on January 21, 2019, was sentenced Friday in Cardiff to eighteen months in prison.
The footballer, who had just signed in the Premier League, had boarded a device to reach Welsh lands from Nantes. Only, while it was over the English Channel, the machine had disappeared. The wreckage was finally found on the following February 3, with the athlete’s lifeless body inside.
If all this could have looked like an air accident as it happens regularly, points of shadow have been raised. David Henderson should have been at the controls of the plane, but it was David Ibbotson who did it.
This 59-year-old pilot was not licensed to operate such devices at night. In particularly difficult weather conditions, he had « probably » been poisoned with carbon monoxide. The plane did not have a detector, he would not have noticed. His body has never been found.
A pending payment
David Henderson was accused of having violated several points of the legislation on air navigation. At a hearing held last year, he pleaded not guilty. As the investigation continued pending trial, he was released on bail.
This is not the only part of the case that must go to justice. Next March, FC Nantes and the Cardiff City club must meet before the Court of Arbitration for Sport concerning the payment of the transfer. The Welsh club accuses the French organization of irregularity in the transfer, and therefore refuses to pay the sum it had to pay.
