undesirable at OM, Strootman would like to return to Italy

Four years after his arrival at OM, Kevin Strootman is at the top of the players the club wants to sell. According to information from Gianluca Di Marzio, the Dutch midfielder could rebound in Serie B by returning to Genoa.

Kevin Strootman is now only a shadow of the player who made Roma’s heyday between 2013 and 2018. After a promising first season at OM, the Dutch international (46 caps) has continued to disappoint, until losing his place in the eleven then in the group.

According to information from Gianluca Di Marzio, the 32-year-old could rebound in Serie B, in Genoa, which aims to return to Serie A, after its relegation last season. Contacts are said to be underway between the various parties. The player, who would have received offers from Spain, comes out of two loans: one conclusive on the side of Genoa precisely, and another much less, in Cagliari, where his season was disrupted by an injury.

Knees that are too weak

Very interesting at AS Roma, especially under the orders of Rudi Garcia between 2013 and 2016 – it was precisely he who brought him to OM – Kevin Strootman saw his career be hampered by serious knee injuries . Injured in the cruciate ligaments and operated on twice, the midfielder only played seven games between March 2014 and February 2016. After that, the Dutch international never returned to his best level, despite honorable performances. His arrival at OM did not help matters and the player gradually lost his place in the Marseille workforce.

At 32, and one year from the end of his contract with OM, Kevin Stootman is struggling to continue, and his physique continues to worry potential clubs interested. While he seemed to be reviving on loan at Genoa between January and June 2021, Kevin Strootman had again been dropped by his knee. Loaned to Cagliari last season, the former Roman had to undergo a new operation which sidelined him for four months.
