UEFA open investigation against Juve over suspected Financial Fair Play breach

UEFA announced Thursday the opening of an investigation against Juventus Turin. The Italian club is notably being prosecuted for possible breaches of the financial fair play regulations.

Juventus in turmoil. While the 2022 World Cup attracts all eyes, in Italy, the legendary club of Turin throws its crisis. Monday, we learned of the resignation of Andrea Agnelli, and of the entire board of directors of which the Italian boss was the president. An unexpected departure which would be explained by the opening of an investigation by the Turin public prosecutor’s office and the Consob which regulates the Italian stock market (the Old Lady is listed on the stock exchange).

Financial fair play and licensing

The Turin public prosecutor’s office on Thursday requested the dismissal of the former president of Juventus and 12 other leaders suspected of irregularities in the financial management of the club, according to Italian media.

Another consequence and it is significant, UEFA announced this Thursday also the opening of an investigation for possible breaches of the regulations of financial fair play, but also on the granting of licenses. Third in Serie A after 15 league days, Juventus will face FC Nantes on February 16 in the round of 16 first leg of the Europa League.
