Trojan rulers have a sense of timing. The day after the spanking received by Australia against the Blues (OK, we abuse it), the Aube club announced the appointment of an Australian coach! Patrick Kisnorbo, 41, succeeds Bruno Irles, who was laid off in early November. In the meantime, Claude Robin had taken over as interim head of the club, which had moved up to Ligue 1 last season.
“By joining ESTAC, Patrick Kisnorbo becomes the first Australian coach to lead a team from one of the five biggest European championships,” writes the Trojan club, quite proud to create the novelty.
He also coached girls
But who is this new coach? A former Australian international defender, notably with Leicester and Leeds during his playing career, Kisnorbo had been the coach of Melbourne City FC since September 2020, with which he won the championship in his first season before finishing 2nd in May 2022. He was also crowned Australian champion in 2018 with the Melbourne City FC women’s team.
Like the Australian club, Troyes has been part of the City Football Group for two years, which has teams in ten countries, with Premier League giant Manchester City as its standard bearer.
