Trevor Zegras and Sarah Nurse Named Cover Athletes for EA Sports’ NHL 23

Athletes featured on EA Sports NHL 23 were officially unveiled Wednesday as Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras and Team Canada forward Sarah Nurse.

Zegras’ selection was met with little surprise given the young center is coming off a very hot year with the Ducks.

Selected ninth overall by the team in the 2019 NHL Draft, Zegras eventually made his league debut in the 2020-21 season, playing 24 games and recording 13 points. Heading into the 2021-22 season, still qualifying as a rookie, Zegras has 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 points in 75 games played. His performance earned him the Ducks all-time leading scorer in a single season, surpassing Bobby Ryan’s previous record of 57 points, in addition to a second-place finish in the 2022 Calder Trophy voting.

However, Zegras’ accomplishments weren’t limited to his ability to get on the scoresheet. The 21-year-old has also caught the league’s attention on several occasions over the past year, due to his propensity for making scoring plays and scoring « Michigan » style lacrosse goals. His infamous assist on Sonny Milano’s goal in December went viral and was reportedly added by EA Sports in NHL 23.

The selection of Nurse who will feature on the cover alongside Zegras is surprisingly historic as it is the first time a female hockey player has graced the front of EA Sports. NHL video game.

Only in their latest edition (NHL 22) that female players even became part of the game, after EA Sports added national team rosters from the IIHF World Championships. While long overdue, these additions have reinforced the undeniable talent that exists in women’s hockey.

And who better to be a representative of that than 27-year-old Nurse, who recently showed her exceptional skills on the world stage. Winning gold with Team Canada in Beijing at the 2022 Winter Olympics, Nurse had five goals and 13 assists for 18 points in just seven games.

The nurse has had an incredible career so far, ranging from her college years playing professionally to representing her country (and winning medals in the process). She is set to play for Canada at the 2022 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Denmark, which begins its qualifying round on Thursday.
