Transfers: Papu Gomez (Atalanta) to move closer to Sevilla FC
The departure of Papu Gomez, sidelined by Atalanta for a month, has become inevitable. Now all that remains is to know where the 32-year-old will be able to bounce back. And it seems that Sevilla FC is holding the rope. Several Spanish and Italian media, including the local Sevillian newspaper El Desmarque, announce that an agreement in principle would have been found between the two clubs for a sum of around seven million euros.
The player, who had already agreed to a two-and-a-half-season contract, could finally sign up until 2024. The playmaker has been in the heyday of Atalanta since his arrival in 2014, until bring the club to the Champions League quarter-finals last season. But the Argentine was in direct conflict with his coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
At the beginning of December, the situation had become inextricable after an altercation between the two men at half-time in a European Cup match against Midjtylland. The Bergamasques rulers then tried to ease tensions, to no avail.
