After having already released some photos of its prototype last September, the Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa team this time organized a press conference in the presence of the four crews scheduled for the Dakar, while unveiling the Hilux GR DKR T1 + in its final dress.

As a reminder, four new Hilux will be entered in the Dakar with the flagship duo Nasser Al-Attiyah / Mathieu Baumel, but also three other 100% South African crews, Giniel de Villiers / Dennis Murphy, Henk Lategan / Brett Cummings and Shameer Variwa / Danie Stassen.

“I continue to be impressed with the new car, and I’m particularly impressed with the rough and difficult terrain we can face with the new, bigger tires. The engine delivers excellent power and torque, and we look forward to testing the car in race conditions this weekend. ” commented Nasser Al-Attiyah.

Team principal of the team, Glyn Hall shows great confidence: “Our all-new Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1 + has progressed extremely well over the last few months of development, and we are confident that it is now ready to take on the Dakar Rally. As such, we have officially removed it from the prototype program and will continue to refine the car until the Dakar in January. The Land Cruiser’s new engine has proven to be reliable from the start, and working with a stock engine at the right horsepower means we don’t have to strain the engine to get maximum performance. ”
