Three more years for Burrows behind the Canadiens bench

Alex Burrows has accepted a three-year contract extension as assistant coach for the Montreal Canadiens, the team announced Wednesday.

Burrows has been in this position since February 24, since the hiring of Dominique Ducharme on an interim basis to replace Claude Julien. The 40-year-old coach, who is on his first such NHL experience, is notably responsible for the power play for the Habs and forwards.

After a 13-season career as a player in the NHL, Burrows was first hired as an assistant coach with the Laval Rocket in the American Hockey League on July 6, 2018.

Ducharme was formally hired as head coach on July 13. Assistant coach Luke Richardson also got a three-year contract extension on July 14, and the Canadiens hired Trevor Letowski as an assistant coach on July 21.
