The mayor of Marseille announced this Thursday an increase in the amount of rent for the Orange Vélodrome. OM will have to pay 6.5 million euros this season, not including another variable part.

Undefeated at home this season in Ligue 1 after five games played in front of their home crowd, OM occupy the place of runner-up to PSG. Among other things thanks to its 12th man, the Orange Vélodrome stadium. The unfailing support of the people of Marseille, their fervor and also, of course, their diligence, place every year Marseille at the top of the Ligue 1 average attendance ranking. At the end of the 2021/22 financial year, the Vélodrome welcomed an average of 56,783 spectators on the French stage. Ahead of PSG (47.283) and OL (40.286).

These entrances to the stadium naturally generate revenue. Ticketing and product sales in particular. However, OM does not own its premises and must pay rent to the city of Marseille. Last season, this rental amounted to five million euros for the fixed part. To this sum was added a variable part determined by the filling rate of the stadium and which is also evaluated in a few million euros. This system set up in close collaboration with the town hall of Marseille is logically maintained for the current financial year. However, with a few conditions.

An increase of 1.5 million euros in the fixed portion

Via a post on his account Twitter, Benoît Payan revealed this Thursday afternoon an increase of 1.5 million euros in this fixed part of the annual rent of the Vélodrome. The mayor of Marseille was pleased to have found an agreement that will bring 6.5 million euros into the coffers of the city. Liquid assets which could even possibly increase to a total calculated at 9 million euros thanks to the addition of this famous variable part mentioned above. On the other hand, the club chaired by Pablo Longoria did not react to this announcement with great fanfare.
