the type of player who can easily achieve a 100-point season

The 2023 National Hockey League Draft is just around the corner.
By June 28 and 29, we will still see several different rankings and comments on the many hopes of the 2023 vintage.
Pundits and analysts all have different opinions on each of the top prospects in the upcoming draft.
Well, the prospect that is undoubtedly generating the most controversy right now and on which comments differ the most is, of course, Matvei Michkov.
The name of the young Russian hopeful is on everyone’s lips in the hockey world, especially in Montreal in recent weeks considering that the Habs will speak in 5th place, a position where Michkov could very well be available.
What is complicated in Michkov’s case, well, is the fact that he is Russian and has a contract in the KHL until 2026.
Vladimir Putin and Russia could prevent the youngster from joining the NHL.
The mere fact that he is Russian already scares a lot of teams, including CH according to various reports.
However, the talent is undeniable in Michkov, and it is this that causes the GMs of several teams to scratch their heads.
The majority of experts agree that Michkov is the second best player (even first for some) in this draft.
The general opinion is that if Michkov were, for example, Canadian, he would definitely be drafted second, maybe even first.
In short, it is a controversial hope which, in the end, could make several teams, including the CH, regret not having taken the risk.
Despite all the negative and comments talking about Michkov being too big of a risk, some pundits hold him in very high esteem, and that’s the case with Scott Wheeler.
The renowned prospect expert recently explained that he sees Michkov as the type of player who will easily make 100 points in a season one day.

That’s a big comment, especially coming from someone who says he never said that about Connor McDavid (at the time) and Connor Bedard.
“He’s the kind of player who can pull off an easy 100-point season at the peak of his career. I’ve never said that about any other prospect, whether it’s McDavid or Bedard, so it speaks to his true talent. – Scott Wheeler
This is a very big statement from the renowned expert, who explains that Michkov is much closer to Bedard than some people believe.
Michkov will become a true star player in the NHL, no matter when he arrives.
Again according to Wheeler, he is the best Russian prospect since 2004, the year when Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin were drafted.
In short, the teams that decide not to draft Michkov could deeply regret it in a few years.
Let’s hope CH won’t make such a mistake, if Michkov really is a star in the making.
