The “standing” stands back on January 2 in the Premier League for the first time in nearly 30 years
The Chelsea – Liverpool clash, on January 2, 2022 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, will mark the return of the standing stands in the English Championship, nearly thirty years after their ban in the first two English divisions, in 1994, following the Hillsborough drama in 1989
.
Five clubs – Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea in the Premier League, Cardiff in the Championship – have had their request accepted by the authorities to test these secure standing stands in the second half of the season.
These clubs have equipped part of their stadiums with protective bars that would prevent stacking in the event of crowd movement.
