First baseman and designated hitter Luke Voit will continue his career with the San Diego Padres, who acquired him from the New York Yankees on Friday.
The Californian organization has given in return the right-handed gunner Justin Lange.
Voit, 31, could help an offense that will be without Fernando Tatis Jr., struggling with a broken wrist in the opening months of the campaign. In 2021, the veteran had 11 home runs and 35 RBIs in 68 games while maintaining a .239 batting average. In the previous two years, he had exceeded the 20 long ball mark.
Having started his career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2017, Voit had 73 four-base hits in major league baseball.
