The New York Mets have reportedly hired Billy Eppler as general manager.
This is what the MLB Network said on Monday.
The 46-year-old man has experience in the matter, having held the same job with the Los Angeles Angels from 2015 to 2020. His best shot with the Californian team was the hiring of the Japanese Shohei Ohtani .
Previously, Eppler was a scout for the Colorado Rockies and held several positions with the New York Yankees.
Coming back to the Mets, this would be their third GM in less than a year, as Jared Porter and Zack Scott held the position in the past year.
The former was fired in January after ESPN revealed that he harassed a journalist via text message in 2016. The latter, for his part, was shown the door in November following his arrest for driving a vehicle while intoxicated.
The Big Apple club ended their 2021 season third in the Eastern Division of the National League, with a 77-85 record. The Mets haven’t made the playoffs since the 2016 campaign.
