As the start of their preseason approaches, the Lakers don’t seem to be done with their offseason market. And yet, according to a former glory of the league, they already have the man who can change everything for the better!
As it stands, it seems difficult for them to obtain the sizeable reinforcements they covet before the start of the season. The Lakers would indeed not be against the fact of retouching their workforce a little more, especially if this involves getting rid of Russell Westbrook. However, the rival franchises do not a priori intend to help them in their task, which could freeze their “mercato” until the Opening Night.
The pre-season, which will officially begin this Monday for the Angelinos with a derby against the Kings, should provide more information on the real need to recruit new players. Because even if the fans remain very skeptical in front of the five major that should be aligned in the coming monthssome believe that they have all the assets they need… including an adult.
Darvin Ham, the Lakers’ summer rookie?
Passing through Los Angeles recently, Pistons legend Ben Wallace stopped at the UCLA Health Training Center to attend the Lakers’ training. Invited by Darvin Ham, his former teammate in Detroit, the mythical pivot took the opportunity to speak about him at the microphone of TMZ Sports. And the least we can say is that he sees big for the budding coach!
Yeah, I think it’ll work with him. I know he’s a great presence in the locker room, and I think the guys are going to really rally around him. He is the right man for this team, with the message he needed. Now it’s up to its players to buy into the system and play. But just by looking at their roster, you can tell they’re built to win!
Words that are important for the Purple & Gold, they who seemed sorely lacking in leaders last year. With Ham, they would have got their hands on a renowned locker room master, and it’s not just anyone who says it. As a former champion, Ben Wallace knows what it costs to win the Larry O’Brien trophy, and considers the neo-coach as the right man to achieve it.
However, as Big Ben rightly reminds us, Ham alone will not be able to turn his team into a strong contender for the title. For it, LeBron James & Co. will have to adhere to its principles, and apply them to the letter on the floor. A process which will therefore have to begin this Monday, against Sacramento, for a first rehearsal that the supporters are impatiently awaiting!
Relatively unknown before his appointment as head of the Lakers bench, Darvin Ham would tick all the boxes to succeed in his new role. All that remains is to hope for the Angelinos that the performances will follow!
