The Impact hires a jewel from Nigeria

While waiting to lift the veil on his new identity, the Montreal Impact added, on Tuesday, an 18-year-old international striker to its formation, namely Sunusi Ibrahim, an athlete from Nigeria.

Transferred from 36 Lion FC, located in Lagos, Ibrahim has signed a contract for the next three seasons, with an option year for 2024.

« The club is very happy to have finalized the transfer of this young player who is already part of the U23 selection of his country, despite his young age, » sports director Olivier Renard said in a press release. It’s a nice addition to the group, especially since several European clubs were also very interested. «

As recently as last week, various rumors sent Ibrahim to a Danish formation. He has also previously spent time in an academy in Russia.

“Sunusi Ibrahim is a fast and powerful striker who can also play on the sides,” Renard added.

Best scorer in his country

The agreement between the Impact and Ibrahim will be confirmed after receipt of his international transfer certificate and his medical examination.

In 2019, with Nasarawa United, the forward was the leading scorer in the first division of the professional league of Nigeria, with 10 goals in 22 games. With Nigeria’s Under-23 national team, he notably played three qualifying matches for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring one goal.

While still young, Ibrahim has already been the subject of comparisons, for his style of play, with former Nigerian player Daniel Amokachi, who is now a coach.

Regarding the change of identity of the Impact, remember that the club must make a big unveiling on Thursday in the presence of President and CEO Kevin Gilmore.
