The images of the flood in the southwest

In addition to the Gironde, the orange « flood » vigilance concerned Tuesday morning the departments of Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Lot-et-Garonne, New Aquitaine and Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Gers and Tarn-et -Garonne, in Occitanie.

The Gironde was in turn placed on Tuesday in orange vigilance for the risk of flooding of the Garonne swollen by the intense rains of the last few days in the South-West where seven other departments are still under surveillance, announced Météo France and Vigicrues.

On the foothills and the Pyrenean reliefs, « most of the rivers » in flood reached their maximum Monday or during the night from Monday to Tuesday, but « the disturbances observed since Friday evening » now generate « significant floods on the tributaries of the Garonne « , in the plain, explains Vigicrues in his latest bulletin. « The flood of the Garonne fed by its Gers tributaries will continue in the coming days in the departments of Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot-et-Garonne and Gironde », details the national information service on the risk of floods.

In Gironde, the last department to have been placed on orange vigilance on Tuesday morning, the first overflows thus occurred at night in the La Réole sector, which in February experienced water rises never seen for 40 years. « The water levels will continue to rise and generalized overflows are expected in the morning of Wednesday », warns the prefecture calling « everyone to the greatest vigilance »

Red to orange in most of the departments

On the sections of the Baïse-Gélise-Gers, the Garonne marmandaise and the Garonne agenaise, « the flood wave is currently located in the Toulouse sector » but « should be felt » in the Lot-et-Garonne from this night with a peak expected Wednesday morning, said the prefecture of this neighboring department of Gironde, also affected in February by exceptional floods.

In the other neo-Aquitaine departments of Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques, downgraded from red to orange on Monday evening, the situation oscillates between stabilization of water levels and the beginnings of recession in certain places. The floods observed since Sunday have not exceeded in intensity the previous episode, which occurred one month ago to the day in mid-December.

In the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, « the recession begins slowly » on the Gave d’Oloron, according to Vigicrues. The prefecture has counted 25 emergency interventions since Sunday, without major event. In the Landes, the situation is stabilizing in the Peyrehorade sector, watered by the Gave de Pau and the Gave d’Oloron, « where the recession should not begin for several hours », according to the prefecture, emphasizing there also that «  » there were no notable consequences « in the department. « It overflowed, a little less than what Vigicrues had planned (…) But as it overflowed, it still went into the houses », told AFP the mayor of the municipality Didier Sakellarides .

Further east, on the Occitanie side, after the flooding of many rivers in Ariège, it was time for pumping operations in houses and businesses. Traffic was gradually reestablished on the many flooded or snow-covered secondary roads. In Toulouse, the Toulouse-Nancy (Ligue 2) football match scheduled for Monday evening was postponed to a later date, the Stadium being located on an island, threatened by the flooding of the Garonne. The rising water flooded places to walk on the banks of the river.
