The Grap Wrap: New Japan Pro Wrestling Announce Two London Shows

The king of sport is coming to the UK, a possible return of the demon and the WWE Cardiff card is getting a big chunk. Everything that happens here in The Grap Wrap.

New Japan returns to the UK

New Japan Pro Wrestling will hold two shows at the Crystal Palace Indoor Arena in London on October 1 and 2. The events are advertised as Royal Quest II and mark the King Of Sports’ first full shows on these shores since 2019.

The Japanese band’s last visit to England was at the inaugural Royal Quest event at the Copper Box Arena. This card headlined a stunning IWGP title clash between Kazuchika Okada and Minoru Suzuki. At the conclusion of this fight, Okada vowed to retain his title until NJPW returned to London. The unexpected disruptions of the pandemic kept the company, and Okada, apart longer than they would have liked.

The IWGP World Heavyweight Championship now belongs to “Switchblade” Jay White. Maybe Okada will get the chance to get his wish to lift the championship again on British soil.

More announcements will follow as the Royal Quest II map takes shape. The Grap Wrap will update you as matches are announced for this gigantic event.

A strong comeback

Rumors about Bray Wyatt continue to swirl, as The Fiend’s possible return to WWE TV is hinted at onscreen. Social media went into a frenzy during Monday Night Raw this week when an arm appeared in the back of the shot during a backstage brawl between Dolph Ziggler and Theory. The figure appeared to be wearing a glove nearly identical to those worn by Bray Wyatt. It was later revealed that the person in question was actually Dexter Lumis, who had recently returned home.

But the use of Lumis carried many echoes of Wyatt’s supernatural persona. Wrestling fans are known to delve into the universe of these storylines, and many noticed that Lumis held an open door during the fight. The Fiend’s catchphrase “Let me in” immediately comes to mind. A burning trash can was used to advertise a later appearance by Lumis in the series, echoing the Fiend’s last appearance, in which he returned after being burned alive. Will Lumis be the vessel through which Wyatt will return to society?

In less esoteric terms, Triple H has undertaken a massive rebuild since taking over as head of creation. This saw the return of a number of previously fired superstars including Lumis, Karrion Kross, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY. The immensely popular former WWE Champion Wyatt would be a welcome addition to this list of returning wrestlers.

Rollins and Riddle meet at The Clash

Seth Rollins will face Riddle at Clash At The Castle in Wales next month. The gargantuan event at Principality Stadium on September 3 will be WWE’s first show at a UK stadium in 30 years. Riddle was due to meet Rollins at SummerSlam last month but was not « medically cleared » to face the former Shield member.

On Monday Night Raw, Riddle played a trick on Rollins. First appearing via satellite, apparently from « his mother’s basement, » the former UFC fighter challenged Rollins to a match at The Clash. When he accepted, he revealed that he was actually in the arena, and Riddle chased Rollins off in the ensuing fight.

This is the fourth confirmed match for WWE’s big Premium Live event in the UK. The full map announced so far is below:

Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Liv Morgan vs. Shayna Baszler for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Seth Rollins vs. Riddle

Bianca Belair, Asuka and Alexa Bliss against Bayley, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY.
