Indisputable and essential leader of Malian football for several years, the former vice-president of the Malian Football Federation and the Malian Stadium in Bamako, Boukary Sidibé alias « Kolon » was decorated with the Medal of Sports Merit. A deserved distinction for the 50-year-old who has allowed Malian football to shine at the highest continental level.
A native of Bamako, the passion for football will lead Boukary Sidibé « Kolon » to the vice-presidency of the Stade Malien de Bamako between 2006 and 2010, then to the presidency from 2010 to 2016, after the coronation of the club at the Confederation Cup Africaine de Football (CAF) in 2009. A first for a Malian club. Under his presidency, Stade Malien de Bamako was Malian Champion 5 times (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015), the club won the Mali Cup 3 times (2010, 2014 and 2015) and played once the semi-final of the CAF Cup. In 2015, the club received the « African Legend » prize awarded by the authorities of the Confederation of African Football. He was 1st Vice-President of the Malian Football Federation twice, from 2009 to 2011 and from 2013 to 2016.
At 51, the man who breathed new life into Malian football through his management was awarded the medal of sporting merit by the Malian authorities on September 22, during the country’s 62nd Independence Day. At the African level, Boukary Sidibé « Kolon » was a member of the Marketing Commission of the Confederation of African Football from 2009 to 2011, then a member of the CAF Finance Commission from 2013 to 2015.
For the former defender of the eagles of Mali Fousseyni Diawara, it is thanks to the advice and support of Kolon that he continues to serve Mali. “He convinced me that I could play an important role as either a manager or a staff member. So, that’s when I realized that because I had no idea what I was going to do after my career. But, the idea above all to work for the selection came from Kolon and President Baba Diarra. So, I met Kolon in Paris, we talked and very quickly, he convinced me that I could have an important role and that he was going to be there to accompany me, to support me « suggested Fousseyni Diawara, the current and assistant manager of the eagles of Mali.
