The footballers of Bréquigny will present themselves without shorts or socks

They had already carried out a first action on March 7, the day before International Women’s Rights Day. That day, the players of the Cercle Paul Bert Bréquigny, a Rennes football club which plays in Regional 1, had dropped the shorts and trained in panties. They thus intended to draw attention to the unequal treatment of men and women in football. Qualified for the Coupe de France, the girls of Bréquigny had indeed received only one jersey from the French Football Federation (FFF) while the men’s teams receive from the 4th round full equipment with jersey, shorts. and socks.

This nice publicity stunt had not gone unnoticed and had even gone up to the ears of certain leaders of the FFF, who had then promised to remedy this injustice. But eight months have passed and the players of CPB Bréquigny have still not seen the color of the promised shorts. They secretly hoped to receive them this week before their meeting in the 1st federal round of the French Women’s Cup, which they will play against Brest (Division 2) at the end of the day on Saturday. In vain. « There was only one set of shirts in the package that we received from the FFF but still no shorts and socks », denounces Manon Tessier, the team captain.

The FFF promises full equipment from next season

A little offended, the girls from Bréquigny decided to do it again. When it comes time to show up on the lawn on Saturday, they will land without shorts or socks and will pose in this outfit for the official photo. « But we will still wear shorts during the match because it is mandatory, » said Manon Tessier, who hopes that their new action will move the lines and change mentalities. « We are not here to complain or hit the federation because a lot of things have changed for the better for women’s football in recent years, » she assures us. This short story is a small detail. But we found that surprising and we wanted to alert people to show that there is still progress to be made ”.

In any case, the action seems to have borne fruit. Contacted by 20 minutes, the French Football Federation indicates that it will provide full equipment to the women’s teams engaged in the Coupe de France from next season. She says she wanted to do it this season but a delivery problem prevented her. Of which act.
