Left vacant by Frank Vogel for two weeks now, the position of head coach of the Lakers is the subject of many rumors and desires. However, a candidate would have a head start on the rest of the competition!
Three years ago, as the franchise seemed on the upswing after the arrival of LeBron James, the job had everything to seduce. Today, the reality could be quite different. Indeed, despite the presence of the King, ofAnthony Davis and of Russell Westbrook in the workforce, the Lakers should have trouble finding a coach in the coming weeks.
There are many reasons for concern for the front office in this case. First of all, the management of the exit of Frank Vogel was not necessarily well received by the rest of the profession. Similarly, the season delivered by the Angelinos, coupled with the current structure of the roster which leaves little financial margin to rebuild the workforce, is enough to repel more than one. And yet, the names mentioned for the position jostle.
The bookmakers decide for the future coach of the Lakers
Quin Snyder, Doc Rivers, Mike Brown, Nick Nurse, Mark Jackson, Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue: all have sooner or later been mentioned as potential successors to Vogel in charge of LA in rumors. However, several of them have already made it clear that they were not interested in this prospect. The bookmakers therefore took these opinions into account to establish the favorite for the seat!
According to the specialized site Bovada, a new favorite has emerged to recover the position left vacant by Frank Vogel: Mark Jackson. The former Golden State Warriors head coach has odds of 2.25, followed by David Fizdale (5.00), Doc Rivers (7.00), Nick Nurse (7.00) and Mike Brown (9.00).
I have to say that Jackson’s name comes up more and more in discussions on the subject.
Disappeared from the league since 2014 and his departure from Golden State, the 57-year-old technician appears to be a divisive case within the NBA community. Indeed, for many, he would be the one who laid the foundations of the Warriors dynasty, and would therefore have deserved to bounce back elsewhere after his experience in the Bay. For others, its impact on this success remains limited, and therefore explains its absence from the benches over the last 8 years.
Despite this contrasting image, the former All-Star would be the one who has the best chance of recovering the reins of Purple & Gold. An opportunity that he should obviously not miss in view of his situation, but which would come with great responsibilities. Beware, however, of Rob Pelinka and his assistants not to wait too long to hire him, under penalty of being overtaken by a rival franchise !
Despite the prestigious competitors he faces, Mark Jackson would hold the rope to take the lead of the Lakers this summer according to the bookmakers. It remains to know his opinion vis-à-vis this track!
