The 2022 calendar of the Formula 1 World Championship could be unveiled in the coming days by the FOM, organizer of the competition. An officialization awaited by the Public Interest Group which organizes the French F1 Grand Prix on the Paul Ricard circuit of Castellet (Var) since 2018. According to the English press, if the F1 season will have 23 Grands Prix – against 22 currently , the Var meeting could disappear for the benefit of the Imola circuit.

It’s about a « rumor » says Eric Boullier, director of the GIP Grand Prix de France: « We have not received an official and legal notification telling us that there will be no Grand Prix at Le Castellet. _Our contract, started in 2018, will end after the 2022 edition_. Like any promoter, we have obligations that we have always respected, so there is no reason why the Grand Prix should not take place. «

A French Grand Prix in July?

Eric Boullier, however, confirms that the GP date could be postponed. Since 2018, and the return of F1 to France, the competition took place at the end of June. In 2022 it could be held in July. « Nothing is final » specifies the director, « The FIA and F1 haven’t confirmed anything yet. »

This date should not fix the tourism professionals Var: « It is true that in July, the Var is already very busy » recognizes Eric Boullier. « We may have to review our business strategy but the GP will still have a positive impact on the economy » concludes the director of the Grand Prix de France.
