Hypercar

Never change a winning team : Toyota will once again enter two GR010s – Hybrid. Only major change: the tenure of the Japanese pilot Ryo hirakawa aboard the number 8. He takes the place of his compatriot Kazuki Nakajima – three-time winner of the 24 hours of Le Mans – who announced his retirement from sports in November.

Alpine-Signatech continues its journey with its venerable Gibson-powered A480. For now, only André Negrão is confirmed at the wheel. A Glickenhaus 007 will also be entered in WEC (with Olivier Pla) while awaiting the probable arrival of a second chassis in the Sarthe.

Known for its record number of dropouts in Sarthe, the ByKolles team has not been selected. According to our colleagues from Sportscar365, Colin Kolles’ squad had nevertheless requested a ticket for a hypothetical Vanwall badged Hypercar, in tribute to the first constructors’ world champion team in Formula 1.

The main novelty is Peugeot’s official engagement with two copies of its 9 × 8. The tricolor hybrid machine made its first laps of the wheels a few weeks ago. Corn uncertainty remains on its date of entry into service. In Mans? At the end of the season? The Lion chose to wear the numbers 93 and 94. The first is undoubtedly a tribute to the hat-trick achieved by the brand in the Sarthe with its 905. Unfortunately, the 92 was already taken by… Porsche in the GTE Pro category.

LMP2

Lots of changes but a constant in « Ligue 2 ». The commercial domination of the Oreca 07 is further accentuated, with fifteen chassis out of the fifteen entered. This season will be marked by the arrival of new teams and drivers who have come to prepare their program in the premier class in 2023.

We thus note the commitment of the great American house Penske, responsible for the future operation of the Porsche LMDh. Behind the wheel, a little surprise: the return to the prototype of the French veteran Emmanuel Collard (50 years old) as a pilot silver.

For its part, the Formula 2 champion team, Prema Powerteam, made his debut in endurance racing. The Vicenza team (Italy) is closely linked to Ferrari, which will return to the world championship in 2023. At the wheel of the Oreca, we will find two unfortunate heroes of the 24 hours of Le Mans 2021: Robert Kubica and Louis Delétraz. They will be accompanied by the young Italian Lorenzo Colombo, 16e of the international Formula 3 championship last year.

New to WEC, the British team Vector Sport offered itself an experienced crew, with the return to Europe of Sebastien bourdais. He will be accompanied by the Swiss Nico Müller and the Briton Ryan Cullen.

LMP2 World Cup winner last year, the trio Robin Frijns – Ferdinand von Habsburg – Charles Milesi does not continue the adventure. However, the WRT team remains well in contention with two cars. The first will be led by Sean Gelael. The second, entered in the Pro-Am subcategory, will carry the RealTeam banner.

The Jota team – always brilliant in LMP2 – has compensated for the retirement of Anthony Davidson by the arrival of Will Stevens at the controls of his # Mighty38 (“formidable number 38”). Conversely, we note the disappearance of the swift Team Nederland by Fritz Van Eerd.

Engaged last year with a 100% female trio, the Richard Mille team has confirmed the young Lilou Wadoux (20 years). L’Amiénoise had taken the 3e place of the Alpine Elf Europa Cup and participated in the rookie test, led by the WEC at the end of the season on the Sakhir circuit (Bahrain).

GTE

In GTE Pro, the main novelty is the global commitment of Corvette. A C8.R driven by Tommy Milner and Nick Tandy will compete in the WEC. The machine equipped with a central rear V8 will referee the debates between the Porsche 911 RSR « factory » with unchanged crews and the Ferrari 488 Evo of AF Corse led by Alessandro Pier Guidi and Miguel Molina.

The GTE Am grid remains fragmented.
