Launched in 2021 in France, the Toyota Yaris Cross does not really display sporting ambitions on paper. However, the Japanese manufacturer unveils a GR Sport version of its compact SUV, downright inspired “by the performances achieved by Toyota Gazoo Racing in many world championships”.
If this influence turns out to be true, it seems in any case rather discreet. The Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport is in fact distinguished above all by its new rear diffuser, its specific grille decorated with a black lacquered pattern called “hot stamp”, its shiny 18-inch alloy wheels, or its GR logos. The SUV also sports a Gray Chrome body color, combined with a black roof and pillars.
No change on the motor side

The engine of the Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport is not very sporty. This is the same three-cylinder 1.5 Hybrid Dynamic Force unit that equips the other versions of the compact SUV. The power remains fixed at 116 horsepower. On the mechanical side, Toyota is content to provide a specific suspension setting to offer “a better feeling of direction, stability and grip”.
Red stitching and GR logos inside

On board the Yaris Cross GR Sport, Toyota adds sports front seats with premium GR Sport upholstery in perforated black suedecloth. Leatherette side reinforcements are present on these seats. Red stitching appears on the seats, as well as on the steering wheel and gear lever. The GR logo is present on the headrests, the instrument cluster, the steering wheel or even the start button. Finally, the interior is marked by metallic silver inserts on the dashboard and inside the doors.
The price of the new Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport is not specified at the time of writing these lines. The compact SUV with a sporty look is available to order from the end of 2022.
In short
Not particularly suitable for chaining the laps of the circuit, the Toyota Yaris Cross is however well declined in a new sports version. Called GR Sport, this iteration adopts a discreet body kit, which includes a diffuser, a specific grille, and shiny 18-inch alloy wheels. It also features a Gray Chrome body color, and sports front seats in its passenger compartment with a mix of suede and leather upholstery. This interior is also marked by red stitching, GR logos and metallic silver inserts. Under the hood, however, there is nothing sporty about the Yaris Cross GR Sport. It retains its 116 horsepower 1.5 Hybrid Dynamic Force three-cylinder engine. At most, Toyota adds more dynamic suspension tuning. The Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport is available to order from the third quarter of 2022.
