The Los Angeles Clippers, carried in particular by a Kawhi Leonard at 45 points, went to win 97-104 in Dallas and the two teams will therefore play a Game 7 Sunday at Staples Center.
Utah still does not know its opponent in the second round of the play-offs and will have to wait until Sunday. The Clippers and Dallas will indeed play a Match 7 at the Staple Center, in this incredible series where no team has managed to win at home in the first six meetings (new NBA record!). Back to the wall, the Californians snatched this Match 7 (the only one of all the posters of the first round of these 2021 play-offs) by going to win 97-104 in Texas, in front of 18,324 spectators. Worn by an exceptional Kawhi Leonard, author of 45 points (18 out of 25 on shots including 5/9 at 3pts), play-off record equaled, the Clippers managed to win this very close meeting, where no team had more than ten points in advance, and where Dallas led most of the time.
Leonard more decisive than Doncic
The Californians were leading 48-45 at halftime, but they had never led by more than one point (and they were only ahead for a few seconds on three occasions) during that first half. In second, the two teams took the lead in turn, but without succeeding in taking cover. Dallas was still leading 85-84 with 7’36 to go, but the Clippers were after a 6-0 lead, thanks to Paul George, Kawhi Leonard and Nicolas Batum, and the Mavericks never took the lead again. They came back to 88-90 with 4’41 from the end, but Leonard added five more points and put the Texas hopes to rest forever. Author of 29 points (but only 2/9 at 3pts), 8 rebounds and 11 assists, Luka Doncic failed to carry his team to the end, despite the help of Tim Hardaway Jr (23pts). Opposite, Reggie Jackson finished with 25 points and 9 rebounds and Paul George with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Everyone will now take the road to California for a Match 7 more than undecided!
