The Circuit of the Americas in its entirety for NASCAR
The announcement fell this Friday by the promoter of the route, the Circuit of the Americas will be used in its longest version for NASCAR races, that is to say the same version as that used in the past in Formula 1 , WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, NTT IndyCar Series or World Motorcycle Speed Championship.
It is therefore in its version of 3.41 miles and its 20 turns that the three NASCAR national series will take place from May 21 to 23. Marcus Smith, president of Speedway Motorsports says there have been discussions about whether the short 2.2 mile version could be preferred. It will not be, it will be the Circuit of The Americas in its entirety.
We have carefully examined both routes. There is no doubt that the long version will be the most entertaining for fans. There are more visibility on the hills. Every NASCAR driver will therefore be challenged by the same 20-turn counterclockwise circuit designed for Formula 1 drivers.
The full program for the inaugural weekend is not complete. Indeed, the schedules are not yet known. However, testing will take place on Friday May 21, Truck and XFINITY races on May 22, while the Cup will take place on Sunday May 23.
Adjustments to be made
However, there will be some adjustments, as slower lanes will be used in some turns. These will be the same type of bands as those used in Charlotte on the road circuit. Thus, this will prevent pilots from using the clearances.
There will also be an addition of tire blocks in areas where potential high speed accidents can occur. Finally, the pit wall will be extended. As for the lights indicating neutralizations, they will be added, as will timing cells.
