The Canadian trades Filip Mesar to the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL
We should have expected it, but now it’s official, the Montreal Canadiens have sold the Slovak forward, Filip Mesar, to the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL.

For those wondering, even though he played a game with the Laval Rocket in the AHL yesterday, it doesn’t burn a year off his entry-level NHL contract.
Having him play a game with the Laval Rocket last night was just a test. He didn’t look bad yesterday, even though he was employed on a fourth line.
The plan that Kent Hughes preferred was therefore prioritized.
We remember that the GM of CH wanted to see his 26th overall choice in the last draft dominate in the OHL this year by obtaining a solid harvest of points rather than seeing him obtain fewer points in the AHL.
The goal of this referral to the OHL in the case of Mesar is to see him explode offensively by having more playing time than at Laval. He should also play on the wing.
It is this element of Mesar’s game that we want to prioritize this season, and not to see him improve his defensive game and become more complete in the AHL.
The fact remains that the management of the CH still wants to see him take care of his defensive game.
Next season, there, Mesar should play with the Rocket in order to improve his game at all levels and therefore not only from an offensive point of view.
He could also already make the jump to the NHL if he shows that he is ready and if there is obviously a position available for him.
For now, it’s clear that Mesar, who would have preferred to play with men in the American League this season, must be disappointed.
He will have to get used to the idea that this is the right decision for his development. He will have to find something positive in this situation if he wants to achieve the objective placed on him, which is to dominate in the OHL.
In short, if Slafkovsky is sent to Laval, he will not be able to play with his good friend Mesar.
A lot of
– Opinions are clearly mixed with regard to this decision of the CH.
Don’t like this move. What’s the point of sending him to a bad junior team to play with kids when he’s already played against men in Europe. Time will tell. I’m sure the #Habs did their due diligence, but I would have sent him back to Europe. https://t.co/H7mdkbpFDd

– Still more comments on this subject.
Thing is, the Canadians didn’t have a choice with Lehkonen, he was a 2nd round pick.
I do agree with you though that Laval hasn’t produced scoring talent, but, on the flip side, there was also frustration with leaving players like Norlinder or Ylönen too long in Europe.
