For its last match of the World Championship, the France team was beaten (7-1) by Canada (2-0, 2-0, 3-1), Tuesday evening in front of 2,873 spectators in Helsinki (Finland) . A match without much stake for the two teams since the result had no impact on their place in the standings, third for the North Americans, sixth for the Blues.
Guaranteed maintenance in the world elite
Canadians Dylan Cozens (12’40 »), Max Comtois (17’31 »), Pierre-Luc Dubois (22’07 »), Eric O’Dell (35’10 ») and Zach Whitecloud (45 ’29 ») scored the first five goals, before Anthony Rech (48’20 », named best Frenchman of the match) saved the honor. But Dubois (51’16 ») and Damon Severson (55’19 ») were still going to score. Les Bleus goalkeeper Sebastian Ylönen made 37 saves from 44 shots, while opposing goalkeeper Chris Driedger finished with 18 saves from 19 shots.
Canada will play in the quarter-finals, while France remains in place and will participate again in the World Elite in May 2023 (location to be determined, possibly again in Finland). Three French people particularly distinguished themselves during this World Cup: Alexandre Texier, Hugo Gallet and Yohann Auvitu.
