The best NHL bets today (Rangers will beat Bruins at MSG)

We had another successful night for NHL betting last night, as the San Jose Sharks rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Dallas Stars, 5-3.

Now we have a massive list of matches to watch and bet on tonight. There are 13 total NHL games on Thursday night. To celebrate, I have a whopping five (5) games for tonight’s slate.

Let’s dive into these games.

Note: For the sake of transparency, sometimes the numbers I have bet on matches are no longer available, as I placed the bets the day before the article was written. All my bets are verified and tracked on BetStamp here.

If I put the pick in my item, that means I always like it at their current and most recent ratings.

Rangers -102 vs. Bruins

I might get grilled trying to cut the Boston Bruins one more time, but the stats tell me they’re not playing as well as their record suggests, and as a result, they’re overvalued in the market for Paris.

For example, they are 21st in CORSI% over their last 10 games and 20th in expected goals per game. In addition, Jeremy Swayman should be started tonight in place of Linus Ullmark. Swayman has been solid, but Ullmark has been the best goaltender in the league this year. Swayman is a significant downgrade.

Ducks/Blue Jackets UNDER 6.5 (-115)

I am absolutely shocked that the total for this game is set at 6.5. These two teams have a combined average of 4.06 goals per game in their last 10 games, which is two and a half goals less than the total set for this game.

Of course, the goalkeepers in this game have been terrible this season, but I don’t believe their attacks can do enough for seven goals to be scored in this game, no matter who’s in the net.

Hurricanes -165 vs Wild

The Hurricanes, in my opinion, are the best team in the NHL. In their last 10 games, they lead the league in CORSI% at 60.69%, almost 5% more than the next best team. They also lead the league in expected goals percentage, with expected goals for of 3.87 and expected goals against of 2.76.

The Wild are an average team at best, and Marc-Andre Fleury has a disappointing .905 save percentage this season. I will bet on the Canes at home tonight.

Kraken +118 vs. Devils

The New Jersey Devils started the season as one of the best defensive teams in the NHL, but fell off a cliff in their own end in 2023. Over their last 10 games, they’re 29th in goals against expected.

This could be bad news for them tonight as they face the best shooting team in the NHL. The Kraken are averaging 4.4 goals per game over their last 10 games, while boasting an ultra-impressive 15.33% shooting percentage.

You can’t give a team like that many high-risk goal-scoring chances, but that’s what the Devils are going to do tonight. The Kraken are a solid underdog at home tonight.

Kings -125 vs. stars

Stars starting goaltender Jake Oettinger has been one of the best goaltenders in the NHL this season. He has a .924 save percentage and is a big part of the reason the Stars are in contention in the Central Division.

Bad news for Stars fans, reserve goaltender Scott Wedgewood will probably start tonight, and he is significantly worse than Oettinger. He has a .905 save percentage on the year and allowed six goals for the Calgary Flames in his last game.

With the Kings at home tonight, I think they are the best choice against the Stars, who are coming off a tough loss to the Sharks last night.

The odds of the games are updated periodically and are subject to change.
