The 2008 Bombardier LearJet 550

Relive a new historic IndyCar race with the Bombardier LearJet 550s contested at Texas Motor Speedway during the 2008 season.

The 2008 season marks the reunification of the Champ Car on one side and the Indy Racing League on the other after 16 years of an internal dispute which has never ceased to drag down the American car. 2008 is therefore the year of renewal with a merger of two dying championships.

After Indianapolis and the Milwaukee Mile, the IndyCar follows on at Texas Motor Speedway with a third race on an oval in as many weeks. The New Zealander arrives in Texas as a strong leader in the championship, with 28 points ahead of Helio Castroneves and 49 over his teammate Dan Wheldon.

Texas Motor Speedway is the fifth oval of the season, the fourth in a row. At the end of this race there will still be five oval races to go.

The championship leader takes pole position at an average of 214.878 mph. He shares the first line with Hélio Castroneves. Twenty-eight drivers are at the start of this eighth round of the season, the biggest total of the season, 500 miles from Indianapolis excepted.
