Relive a historic NASCAR race, with the DAYTONA 500 contested at the start of the 1991 season of what was then the Winston Cup.
Champion in 1990 for the fourth time in his career, Dale Earnhardt Sr. is still chasing after a first victory at the DAYTONA 500. For this 1991 edition, he comes out with revenge after losing the race on the last lap in 1990 following a puncture after driving over debris left by Rick Wilson a few laps earlier.
Dale Earnhardt won his qualifying race and therefore started from fourth place on the starting grid with Richard Petty at his side. Pole position went to Davey Allison at an average of 195.955 mph. He shares the front row with Ernie Irvan.
For this first race of the 1991 season, no less than fifty-eight drivers took part in qualifying, for forty-two places on the grid. Rich Bickle, Rick Jeffrey, Brian Ross, Gary Balough, Jimmy Horton, JD McDuffie, Dave Mader III, Phil Parsons, Dorsey Schroeder, Bill Venturini, Philip Duffie, Chuck Bown, Delma Cowart, Brad Teague, Mark Stahl and Blackie Wangerin stay on the square at the end of the qualifying races.
