Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond will be in FIFA 23

Apple TV+’s comedy series about the misfortunes of a calamitous football team will be an integral part of the upcoming FIFA 23.

This is following a teaser launched by the official account of the series Ted Lasso, widely rewarded during the Emmy Awards this year, that we discovered the pot of roses. The tweet humorously announced that « Mario would no longer be the only mustachioed pixel man not knowing where the pipe was going to lead him. » An immediate comment from the official EA Sports FIFA account left little doubt as to whether this rumor is true or not. A few hours later, the American publisher confirmed the good news for fans of the comedy, with some additional information: Ted Lasso will be present in FIFA 23.

Team Mustache

The misadventures of coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) became world famous following their broadcast on Apple TV+ in 2020. Coach of an American university football team, Ted is recruited by the ex-wife of a wealthy owner of the English football club, AFC Richmond, playing in the Premier League. The goal of Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) is not the most honest: she seeks, by recruiting a coach for whom football is played with the hands, to bring down the club of her ex-husband. But the good mood, the unorthodox methods and the charm of Ted will gradually change this club programmed to lose.

TED X FIFA

In its press release, Electronic Arts specifies that in addition to Ted Lasso, we will also find his devoted assistant, Coach Beard and the string of stars of the fictional team of AFC Richmond, including Jamie Tartt, Dani Rojas, Sam Obisanya, Roy Kent and Isaac McAdoo. FIFA 23 will even offer the exact replica of the club’s stadium, Nelson Road. If Ted Lasso is one of the coaches available in Career mode, other personalization elements will be unlocked in the popular FUT mode, via specific objectives. The team will be playable in Kick Off, Friendlies and even Online Seasons. After the integration of former glories in the form of heroes in collaboration with Marvel, FIFA confirms a breath of fresh air in its football world.
