Playoffs – 1st round
Edmonton Oilers–Los Angeles Kings: 6-3

EDM: Kane, Draisaitl, Kulak, Bjugstad (2x), Hyman
LAK: Yafallo, Kempe, Byfield
Edmonton leads 3-2 in the series.

In front of their audience, the Oilers took the lead in the series, leaving no room for error for the Kings. Evander Kane and Leon Draisaitl struck early in the first half before Alex Iafallo reduced the score. Edmonton regained a two-goal lead through Brett Kulak but Adrian Kempe put his team back on track.

The rest of the match was to turn to the advantage of the Edmonton players with a double for striker Nick Bjugstad and a success from Zach Hyman (with a header..). Quinton Byfield was still changing the score but it was already too late for the Kings.

Lined up for 14’29 », Kevin Fiala participated in the 3rd goal of Los Angeles obtaining his 3rd assist in 2 games. The Swiss finished with a record of -1. He did not make a single shot and spent 2 minutes in the penalty box.

If they don’t want to enjoy the beach, the Kings will have to win Saturday at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles.

AND EVEN…

Connor McDavid (0-2-2) contributed to two of Edmonton’s six goals and Evan Bouchard (0-1-1) extended his early-season scoring streak to five games to help the Oilers take a 3-2 series lead. The franchise is 12-1 when leading 3-2 in a best-of-seven game and 5-0 when starting at home.

  • Bouchard improved his total for the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs to 2-6-8 (5 GP) and became the second defenseman in franchise history to record eight-plus points in a series, after Paul Coffey who did it four times (1983 DF, 1985 DF, 1985 CF, 1985 SCF). He also joined Coffey (6 GP in 1984 and 1985, 5 GP in 1986) and Charlie Huddy (5 GP in 1985) as the third Oilers defenseman with a five-point streak early in the postseason.
  • McDavid took his postseason total to 23-40-63 (42 games) and became the second-fastest active player to reach the 40-assist mark in the playoffs, behind his teammate Leon Draisaitl (37 games).
